As we continue advancing the specialty of Emergency Medicine, ABEM remains focused on innovation, excellence, and recognizing the physicians who make our work possible.

ABEM is proud to announce the successful administration of the inaugural Certifying Exam. Over 300 emergency physicians traveled to Raleigh, North Carolina, to take the exam in March. A second exam was also successfully administered in May. The exam would not have been possible without the years of research, feedback, and preparation ABEM-certified physician volunteers, subject matter experts, public members, and staff have contributed, and I am very proud of the result.

In honor of Emergency Medicine Day this month, ABEM would also like to recognize and thank all of our ABEM-certified physicians for their expertise, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to advancing the specialty. Join us in celebrating EM Day on May 27.

We look forward to continued progress as we work together to strengthen the specialty and advance the highest standards of care for patients everywhere.

James D. Thomas, MD
ABEM President 2025-2026
